In the course you will become familiar with the PreStack Pro seismic inversion toolkit and algorithms and the basic inversion concepts. You will learn how to transform seismic reflectivities and amplitude versus angle (AVA) signatures into impedances, facies, and other rock and fluid properties, and quality control the seismic inversion. You will be guided through the principles behind prestack Bayesian seismic inversion and its practical, hands-on application.

The course covers the two methods CRAVA and PCube+ and teaches you how to use these to transform seismic reflectivity volumes into layered property cubes, providing valuable input to 3D reservoir models.

This is an online hands-on course where you will be working with a dataset from the Johan Sverdrup field.

  • Well ties and wavelet estimation
Session 2
  • Assessing resolution limitations of seismic and inversion processes
  • Bayesian seismic inversion
  • Building a low frequency (CRAVA) model
  • Traditional (CRAVA) seismic inversion parameterization
Session 3
  • Interpretation of inversion-derived elastic properties
  • Introduction to rock physics models and litho-fluid classes (LFC) in elastic space, in preparation of a PCube+ classification inversion
  • Parameterising PCube+ probabilistic inversion
Session 4
  • Interpreting the results of the probabilistic inversion, including uncertainties in classification and interpreted horizons
  • Estimating unit thicknesses from inversion results
  • Comparing CRAVA and PCube+ inversion results on synthetic (wedge model) and real data

Prerequisite

We recommend that users with no or limited experience in PreStack Pro complete the PreStack Pro Getting started course.

General knowledge of geophysics and seismic interpretation is recommended. Delegates should have an understanding of basic rock physics and amplitude versus offset (AVO) principles.
