What our guest keynote speakers said about The GATHERing
Warm vibes and shared insights
Arranging The GATHERING (both the Euope and US events) is one of the most satisfying things we do at Sharp Reflections. How can inviting our partners, customers and the geoscientist community to share their knowledge and advance the craft not be?
This year’s The GATHERing Europe was no exception. Blessed with pleasantly warm, late autumn weather, Berlin proved to be a conveniently central and pleasant location for the event. The great vibes we know from previous iterations of The GATHERing were evident from the get-go. Our international community is tight-knit and many are acquainted from earlier meets, but all were happy to meet up again and get the buzz going.

Exploring seismic trends, new releases, and collaborative creativity
Our keynote speakers got right down to business and kicked off the event by digging into the theme of Future industry trends and direction in seismic data. Both looking back on the past decade of changes in the seismic acquisition and interpretation processes, and casting their gaze forward on current and future trends, Colin MacBeth (Heriot-Watt University), Tom Hay (Shearwater) and John Brittan (TGS) shared valuable insights on the business.
Following the introduction of highlights from the upcoming Sharp Reflections 2024.1 release, we got down to the nuts and bolts of the new version, showcasing new functionality in live demos. The workshops dug even further into the details. In smaller groups the discussions really get flowing, and we got great feedback from stopping by the different workstations.
Creativity also got flowing – quite literally – at the surprise evening event! Turntable drip painting was definitely a new experience, a collaborative colour-fest that produced some surprisingly pretty paintings.
