Flying Start
Beginner | 3 x 3 hours | Online | Hands-on
This online hands-on course introduces new users to the Sharp Reflections Big Data platform. The course covers basic functionality and navigation, building a project, visualization and analysis of big prestack seismic data, and linking to third party software.
We call this introduction course a ‘Flying Start to QI’ because you also learn how to use all these basic tools to discover a real North Sea oil field from exploration seismic and well data.
Taking this beginner course is already useful for Quality Control of big multi-dimensional seismic data or peer review. Such basic experience is a prerequisite for the other courses.
- Intro to Sharp Reflections, field geology and data
- Data management and visualization: Data loading and saving, offset gathers and creating a near offset stack; memory and saving work; create a horizon deck; overlay horizons, wells, velocity volume; viewer linking
- Convert offset gathers to angle gathers and partial angle stacks
- Data comparator: Compare Amplitude-Versus-Angle on raw and conditioned gathers
- Difference-in-viewer: Far(s) minus Near with Partial Angle Stacks; before minus after conditioning; use in time-lapse analysis
- Well-tie: line-up synthetic with data; compare raw with conditioned
- Know your rocks (part 1): Using Well log viewer to relate elastic to other rock properties
- Know your rocks (part 2): Forward modelling tools to understand seismic prestack effects
- Synthetic Scenario Modeler for discrete scenarios such as fluid substitution
- 3D Parametric Modeler for gradual variations such as thickness wedges
- Horizon interpretation and gridding
- Quantitative Amplitude Interpretation with AVA:
- Data quality health checks before and after prestack conditioning: Using Create Maps for bandwidth, SNR, Shuey 2-term semblance along all horizons in a deck
- Basic QAI: Amplitude, Intercept/Gradient mapping at top and base reservoir
- From interface to layer properties: Relative elastic inversion with raw and conditioned data
- ‘Drill’ Oil discovery well and recap
- Exploration and Production Geoscientists
- Seismic interpreters
- QI Geophysicists
- Exploiting the benefits of using prestack data for analysis and interpretation
- Visualization, differencing and viewer synchronization of prestack data in real-time
- Efficiency of working in-memory
- Processing and QC
- Prestack well-tie, forward modelling, horizon interpretation and gridding
- Amplitude Intercept/Gradient interpretation and relative inversion
We welcome users with no prior experience in the Sharp Reflections Big Data platform. General knowledge of geophysics and seismic interpretation is recommended. Access to stable internet (recommended at least 15Mbps) and one or two screens big enough to display a training manual, a Teams call and Sharp Reflections software at the same time.
You will connect to the Sharp Reflections AWS SaaS cloud solution. You will need:
- Up-to-date browser (e.g. Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge)
- Stable internet connection is more important than its speed (>15Mbit/s)
- A big display screen, at least one 30” with 2560×1600, one 32” with 4K, or two 19” 1920×1080 screens
- Microsoft Teams videoconferencing
