Azimuthal analysis
Intermediate | 4 half days | Online
Learn how best to use the Sharp Reflections AZI-toolkit for Azimuthal Analysis.
In this course, you experience interactive viewing of 5D azimuthal seismic data with full-fidelity offsets, angles and azimuths, and how to convert data between the various azimuthal spaces. After doing a data quality assessment with various prestack diagnostics, you learn how to interactively improve data quality with specific COV and COCA data conditioning techniques. Next, you auto-track and use 5D horizons to quickly analyze anisotropic offset and azimuth-dependent attributes in Velocity vs. Azimuth and Amplitude vs. Azimuth workflows. With weighted azimuthal stacking, you can improve the image for interpretation of complex structures.
In this online hands-on course, you will work with a real land OVT/COV dataset.
This in-depth course requires some prior experience with the software, as offered by the Getting Started course.
- Importing Azimuthal SEGY
- Azimuthal COV, COCA and CICA data visualization, angle conversion and partial stacking
- Prestack Data Quality Assessment: SNR, Bandwidth, Move-out

- Structural imaging improvement with weighted azimuthal stacking
Exploration and production geophysicists, seismic processing geophysicists, reservoir geophysicists.
We recommend that users with no or limited experience in Sharp Reflections complete the Getting Started course first.
General knowledge of geophysics, seismic interpretation and rock physics is recommended.
You will connect to the Sharp Reflections AWS SaaS cloud solution. You will need:
- Up-to-date browser (e.g. Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge)
- Stable internet connection is more important than its speed (>15Mbit/s)
- A big display screen, at least one 30” with 2560×1600, one 32” with 4K, or two 19” 1920×1080 screens
- Microsoft Teams videoconferencing
